STAMPD unveiled its FW17 collection with a hybrid runway/presentation which began with a black and white film projected on floor to ceiling curtains. Models, emerging from behind the curtain, were silhouetted by the light of the projected film, foreshadowed something more to come. Following the procession, the curtains were drawn revealing each model/look on a podium, as row-by-row, each were brought to life by light and smoke. Once revealed, the event transitioned into presentation style giving all attendees the opportunity to view each look up close and meet with designer, Chris Stamp.
The collection, labeled "Asphalt Wave", was derived from a series of motives - early 90's references, political disruption, and a desire to break out of STAMPD's traditional black and white palate with blasts of color. It’s about adding architectural influences and lifestyle elements not only consistent throughout STAMPD’s RTW collections, but also in the brands home design and lifestyle pieces.
"It's not about Man or Woman – this collection is about creating pieces that reflect who we are as a brand – and we want everyone to want to wear them," said designer and creative director, Chris Stamp. "The theme was conjured from the evolution of our brand over the last two years. After opening our Flagship store in LA in 2016 it gave me and my team a different perspective into not only what people wanted in terms of product, but how to also become involved in what we are doing as a brand. Using that intel, we wanted to take an approach to this season that would blend elements of design and color that you wouldn't immediately think to pair together."
VIPS included: Colton Haynes, J Balvin, Ja Rule, Fabolous, Young Paris, Maxwell Osborne, Dao-Yi Chow, Sharina Gutierrez, Melodie Monrose, Dilone, YesJulz, Andrew Rose, David Neville, and Phillip Lim, while standout pieces from the collection included a mustard script varsity jacket, a matching graffiti hoodie and jogger, cropped denim, a leather jacket with shearling collar, and a gothic lettered hoodie; Throughout the collection he used the STAMPD | PUMA Clyde sneaker from his recent collaboration with PUMA.
